This contemporary modern extension in Bishopton was created for homeowners who already had a deep appreciation for design, detail, and quality craftsmanship.

The challenge was to create additional modern living space while respecting the character and integrity of the original home.
Having worked within the design team of the family housebuilder responsible for creating the original property, they understood both the opportunities and limitations involved in extending and evolving an established home. Their vision was never rushed. It was thoughtful, patient, and shaped carefully over time as the needs of their growing family evolved.
A key consideration early in the design process was the understanding that perfectly matching the original masonry of the property would be almost impossible. Rather than compromise the extension by forcing imitation, the clients embraced a more confident architectural direction inspired by the elegant contemporary “Black Box” style homes they had admired while travelling through Skye.
The result became a carefully balanced merger of traditional surroundings and modern architectural design.
Externally, striking black cladding and beautiful black Nordan windows introduced a bold contemporary identity while remaining sympathetic to the property and wider setting. Extensive glazing was carefully positioned to maximise natural light and strengthen the relationship between the interior spaces and surrounding environment.
Internally, the newly formed living space was designed to feel calm, open, and connected.
A vaulted ceiling transformed the scale and atmosphere of the extension, creating a sense of openness and architectural presence while maintaining warmth and comfort for everyday family life. Seamless connection back into the existing kitchen and dining areas allowed the extension to feel fully integrated into the original home rather than separate from it.
The completed space now provides the family with exactly what they had envisioned:
A home that feels equally suited to modern living, entertaining, quiet family time, and the relaxed atmosphere of the contemporary holiday spaces that originally inspired the design.
