This luxury kitchen refurbishment in Wishaw began with a wonderful young family of five looking to create more than just a new kitchen.
Project Shots
Like many busy family homes, functionality mattered just as much as appearance.
They had spent considerable time exploring ideas and working through various design options before approaching Twelve Weeks. Their challenge was clear: they wanted a kitchen that felt elegant and refined as a showcase space, but equally one that genuinely improved the way their family lived day to day.
A key frustration was the inability for the entire family to comfortably gather together around a typical breakfast bar arrangement. Storage was another important consideration, alongside improving the connection between the kitchen, utility, and existing cinema room created through a previous garage conversion.
Listening carefully to how the family used the home allowed us to design a solution tailored specifically to them.
At the centre of the transformation sits an elongated curved island feature—carefully designed to allow all five family members to comfortably eat together while still maintaining generous preparation space. The curved form softened the room and created a more natural flow throughout the space.
To reinforce this feature, we mirrored the island shape within the bespoke ceiling downstand and lighting design. The result creates impact and architectural presence on arrival, while remaining balanced and elegant within the room.
Storage was approached with equal care and intention. Three large pantry systems were introduced to conceal appliances and reduce visual clutter, alongside feature basket storage elements designed to make even open cabinetry feel considered and beautiful.
To improve flow throughout the ground floor, new herringbone flooring was installed continuously from the front entrance through the kitchen and utility spaces—creating warmth, continuity, and connection throughout the home.
One of the most unique elements of the project became what the we affectionately refer to as their “Narnia moment.”
Two concealed pantry doors were integrated within the kitchen cabinetry, opening through to the existing cinema room beyond. A subtle piece of design magic that brings personality, surprise, and fun into the heart of the home.
The utility space was also completely reimagined around modern family life. Elevated laundry appliances improved accessibility and ergonomics, while additional storage and a boot-room-inspired area created practical everyday solutions for jackets, shoes, school bags, and the realities of an active young family.
And finally, the lighting.
Lighting played a defining role throughout this project—carefully layered to create warmth, atmosphere, and functionality at every time of day. From feature lighting details to subtle ambient illumination, the final result feels calm, luxurious, and deeply welcoming.
This project perfectly reflects what we believe great design should achieve:
Beautiful spaces that genuinely improve the way people live.
Quality that endures.
Built on trust.
What started as a fairly standard kitchen reno ended up becoming something really special for us, all thanks to Allan and the team at 12 Weeks Limited.
Before speaking to Allan, we had already spent quite a bit of time with a couple of well-known high street kitchen companies. They came out, measured up, worked through designs with us… but no matter how many times we went back and forth, it just wasn’t quite right. The ideas felt safe, standard, and the layouts never quite worked. I struggled to articulate the vision I had for the space.
Then, by chance, I mentioned it to Allan, a friend who had recently launched his own contracting business. I sent over a couple of quick iPhone videos walking through the space, talking through what worked and what didn’t. And a few days later, he came back with a design.
And honestly, that was it. First draft. No changes needed. It just hit the mark straight away. Somehow, from a couple of videos and measurements, they understood exactly what the space needed and what I’d been trying (and failing!) to explain for weeks.
They took my love of classic shaker style and gave it a modern edge that still feels timeless. But what really stood out was how they approached the tricky parts of the room. The entrance to our cinema room had always been a bit of a sticking point from a design perspective and something every other designer seemed to work around awkwardly. Allan and the team did the opposite. They embraced it! They built it into the cabinetry, creating a seamless run of units with a hidden door that blends perfectly into the design. It’s now one of the standout features of the whole kitchen … a proper “wow” factor, and something people always comment on. What was once a problem became one of the best parts of the space.
From there, everything just came together. Once we gave the go-ahead, the team got to work and what started as something on paper quickly became real. And I still have those moments now where I walk in and think, “I can’t believe this is our kitchen.”
It didn’t stop at the layout. Allan brought so many extra ideas to the table that have made a huge difference to how the space feels and works day to day. The mood lighting completely changes the atmosphere in the evening, and little design details like curving the ceiling drop to mirror the island just elevate it beyond a standard kitchen. The storage solutions are brilliant, and the addition of the ‘bootility’ has been a game-changer for us as a busy family. Every inch of space feels considered and practical, without compromising on style.
The overall project included a full kitchen refit, the bootility, LVT flooring throughout the hall and kitchen, and redecoration including the hall and cinema room. Every single tradesperson involved was excellent, professional, skilled, and clearly proud of the finish they were delivering. And the quality really does speak for itself. The kitchen is fully bespoke and hand-painted, finished to such a high standard. The quartz worktops lift the whole room and bring light into what is quite a dark, north-facing space. The back wall with the sink, symmetry, framing and lighting is honestly stunning and one of my favourite parts of the house.
We’re a busy family of five, and the kitchen is the heart of everything we do. That was a big part of the brief – I wanted a space that felt social and connected. I was so fed up of cooking facing a wall, feeling cut off from everything going on around me. Now, everything has changed. I can cook, chat with the family, have the TV on, and still feel part of what’s happening. It’s so much more sociable, and naturally is the place everyone gathers when they come over. It doesn’t just look amazing, it works for real life.
12 Weeks Limited might be new to the market, but the creativity, attention to detail and quality of finish set them apart from the rest. This wasn’t just a renovation for us… it’s completely changed how we use our home. I couldn’t recommend 12 Weeks highly enough.
